YOU’RE SO VAIN

Written by admin on September 28th, 2012 | Category: Cool Cats

When it comes to accessories, one man was never afraid of dressing up. No matter which season he always found the appropriate item; a Joan Collins bowtie, a Goldie Hawn watch, Jane Fonda cufflinks or a pair of Madonna glasses. This heartthrob only had one demand – it had to be ravishing. Golden Wonder Boy Warren Beatty – I think this song is about you.

SAVOIR FAIRE

In swinging sixties London the streets oozed with great style. Think designers such as Mary Quant and Ossie Clark – models like Twiggy and Veruschka – singing mods like Jagger and Townshend. London was the place to be. To get a style-seeking-inspiration trip down memory lane watch the 1966 classic “Blow-up” by Michelangelo Antonioni – a true savoir faire telling.

CLEOPATRA’S COMING AT YA

Written by OTTILIE on June 21st, 2012 | Category: Cool Cats

Theda Bara (1885-1955) was an American film actress and is known as one of cinema’s earliest sex symbols. I find her femme fatale style very inspiring and especially love her in the movie Cleopatra from 1917.

LEATHER SHOES. HANDMADE IN GERMANY

Written by HUGO AND TANJA on June 19th, 2012 | Category: Cool Cats

Finding the right appearance can be as simple as finding the right shoes to fit the right feet, and wear them. These German handmade leather shoes we found at the vintage store the closest to our front door — Et Voilà! Oh, and yes, we do both wear them.

A HAT DOESN’T MAKE THE HORSEMAN….

, BUT THIS STETSON SURELY CAN MAKE HIM LOOK LIKE ONE

Royal De Luxe STETSON St. Regis

This fine Stetson was found when wandering around the East Village on my last day of a recent NY stay. There is a lot of brand new vintage boutiques with an extremely well calculated old fashion flavour (from the pieces to theinteriors), but with quite modern prices. You’d be better off checking out the way more uncool, less fancy looking bigger
stores with basically no decoration and just vintage clothes, sold almost by the weight. Who seeks, finds. »

To create a unique air, one does not necessarily need unique pieces, but a unique way to combine vintage with novelty. Like matching a book to a reader, or a shoe to feet, one does not fit all. How you choose to look isentirely up to you.

No, we cannot choose the era, the place, to whom, or the way we get into this life. But we can choose to live it in our own unique way with a singular vision. Be a rarity like a well-spent life, what does that mean to you?

EVERYBODY LOVES THE SUNSHINE. ME TOO.

Now it’s time to put on your sunnies. I found these sunglasses in my drawer the other day and had forgotten all about them. I’m sure they’ll be my fauvorite frames this season. They’re nothing fancy designer-wise, but the shape is quite unique.

Love, Ottilie.

THERE’S GOTTA BE A BIT OF WE IN JEWELRY!

Written by Jesper Richardy on May 9th, 2012 | Category: Cool Cats

Fellini is known to have said that all art is autobiographical; the pearl is the oyster’s autobiography. All jewels you wear tell a story – yours. The vintage jewels we like not only for their materials or artistry; the intrigue us for their history combined with our own. This mix of past and present make them personal and ours.

Some choose their outfit complementing their statement jewelry; some match their gown with their heels. For our part, we like to mismatch in terms of style and design, mixing eras and creating something new.

I found these two neckpieces during a brief stopover in NY before heading to my extensive Mexican tour. There’s this old, very charming lady who always sits in the street with her stand full of around-the-world dusty vintage and curiosities, right in front of a record store where I also find gems often. So, a visit to Bedford Ave. is most obligated whenever I set foot in the Big Apple.

SMOKING

Written by Jesper Richardy on February 17th, 2012 | Category: Cool Cats

Smoking. It aint what you do it’s the way that you do it. We are not saying ‘do it’ we are not saying ‘don’t’. We don’t dare say anything. Still, we wonder about the idea of smoking. How come, if a fashion shoot lacks edge (we advocate against the word ‘edge’  btw) you give the model a smoke to smoke and all in a sudden the destruction of self comes off as mesmerizing?
Do we like the fire? Do we find ourselves in a Humphrey Bogart movie every time we cover our hand to protect the match from the wind? Is smoking still a way for us to rebel against our parents? Or society? Are we calmed by the chemicals? Personally, I don’t inhale. I must be lame… It kills you. You stink and your face falls apart way sooner than it’s supposed to. So, why do the smoke become almost the epitome of beauty in these images?
