It’s Friday and we’re in love with Robert Mapplethorpe’s nudes. He was one of the giant photographers of late 20th century, best known for his large-scale, stylized black and white portraits of flowers and nude men. Yes, those were his two preferred objects. His depiction of frank, homosexual eroticism continues to incite controversy and has raised questions of censorship in art at various points. On the trivia side of him: He was once the boyfriend of Patti Smith and he died of AIDS-related complications in 1989. These stills fortunately keep on living.
